Shepler’s Ferry is the easiest and most popular way to get to Mackinac Island. The ride is about 15–20 minutes and runs frequently from both Mackinaw City and St. Ignace. It’s a quick, scenic trip with beautiful views of the Mackinac Bridge, an experience in itself as you head to the island. Once you arrive on Mackinac Island, look for the Grand Hotel horse-drawn carriage located near the ferry docks. Carriages operate throughout the day and provide transportation directly to Grand Hotel. Service is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and the fare is cash only. If a Grand Hotel carriage is not immediately available or you prefer to arrange transportation in advance, guests may contact Mackinac Island Taxi Service at (906) 847-3323. The Grand Hotel can also be reached at (906) 847-3331 with transportation questions. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the scenic 15–20 minute walk from the ferry docks to Grand Hotel. If you're traveling with luggage, Shepler's Ferry can tag your bags on the mainland for delivery directly to Grand Hotel, allowing you to explore the island hands-free while making your way to the hotel!

During the day, guests are welcome to enjoy a relaxed resort atmosphere with casual yet refined attire. Prior to 6:30 PM, the hotel asks that guests refrain from wearing midriff-baring tops, sweatpants, cut-off shorts, sleeveless shirts, or clothing with inappropriate language or graphics.
In the evening, Grand Hotel transforms into a truly special setting. After 6:30 PM, guests are asked to dress in formal, coordinated attire in all main areas of the hotel. Suggested options include suits, dresses, skirts, blouses, dress sweaters, or a sport coat with a tie. Denim and shorts are not permitted. We appreciate your help in honoring this longstanding tradition and creating a beautiful, elevated atmosphere for the weekend!
